SHENTEK - SHENGBAO METALLURGICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Co.,Ltd
Shentek is a privately owned company,
specializing in the R&D of metallurgical
technologies and the production of additives
for iron and steelmaking processes.

Shentek specializes in research, development and production of over 20 series/ more than 300 types of metallurgical flux and alloy products for steel plants in China and other regions. Our products cover the hot metal pre-treatment, BOF and EAF, secondary refinery and continuous casting.
The company is one of largest flux suppliers in China over two decades. By 2018, the company has over 200 employees and 100 million USD in sales revenue. Headquarter of Shentek is located in Shanghai China, with five subsidiary companies including Shentek Zhanjiang in Guangdong province and two limestone mine operations in Hubei province.
The firm is a “one stop shop” to provide a complete range of flux, raw material and alloy products for the steel making process, with a track record on consistent quality, steady supply and fast response. The company also provides “tailor service” for flux products. Shentek engineers diagnose metallurgical problems, customize flux recipe, produce trial batch and finally provide steady supply of flux and alloy products to different steel mills.

Shentek boasts total dedication to creating value for customers through joint development projects and on site technical staff. Annually, Shentek develops 35 new products. As of its inception it has obtained 18 international patents, and 15 projects have been approved by the Shanghai municipality.

In steel making, carbon-based agents, such as petroleum coke and calcined coke, are standard recarburizers at basic oxygen furnace, electric furnace and secondary refinery furnace. However, Steel making shops often experience issue of unstable carbon recovery rate in hot metal. The main reason is that, due to its low density, the common carbon-based agents are not well-mixed and absorbed into liquid steel . Over a decade, Mn-Fe-C hybrid pellet has been adopted by major Chinese steel mills as an alternative recarburizer. Based on the site data collected from BOF, EF and LF shops in Baosteel, ChongQing Steel, Tainjing Steel and JiNan Steel, Mn-Fe-C pellet resulted a reliable recovery rate averaged between 88%--95%, for steel grades with carbon content 0.25% - 0.40% and 0.40% - 0,82%.
This objective of this research paper is to demonstrate Mn-Fe-C Pellet, a hybrid recarburizer, is more effective against conventional carbon-based agents. The research looks into chemical forms of hybrid and conventional recarburizer in the liquid steel in order to study its different melting behaviors and recarburization mechanism. In conclusion, Mn-Fe-C pellet is a solution proven to achieve more predictable and consistent carbon level in steel, especially for mid carbon and high carbon steel grades.
